We believe that Karate is for everyone, from the youngest child, to the oldest pensioner, all races, rich, poor, experienced or not; all are welcome. We don't believe that karate is only for a few tough nuts who want to fight, nor do we believe that karate is only for young people or adults, or that you need to be superbly fit to participate. We adapt for the capabilities of each student, but we are a responsible style. We take our role in the community seriously.
We teach classes in traditional Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate as well as Ryuei-ryu and Shito-ryu kata.
We hold regular self-defense classes for the University community as well as the wider Dunedin Community.
We believe that a solid foundation in traditional karate can provide a great springboard for competition, so we hold regular squad training for members who want to compete in regional, national and international competitions, and support members in perusing officiating pathways as well - Karate judging and refereeing under World Karate Federation (WKF) rules.
Kobudo classes cover a syllabus from one of the most prestigious traditional lineages from Okinawa.
