ARGENTINE TANGO CONTINUING

Argentine tango originated from the streets of Buenos Aires over one hundred years ago. It is an intimate sensual and dynamic dance with a strong emphasis on the connection between two people. Argentine tango is completely improvised and in the moment. For many, tango is both an addiction and a way of life. This course is aimed at those with some prior experience in Argentine Tango (such as those who have taken our beginners course). You will expand and develop upon what you have already learnt to establish an ever stronger ambiance for the dance that is Argentine Tango

No previous dance experience necessary. If you can walk, you can dance Argentine Tango.

When: March 6th - April 3rd, 2017 [5 sessions: Mondays 5:00 - 6:00pm.

BELLY DANCING

Belly Dance finds its roots in Middle Eastern folkloric dance, and is characterised by rolling undulations, smooth circles, and of course, shimmies! In these classes, you’ll learn some of the foundational movements of Tribal style belly dance, some of the history behind the dance, and a few fun combos.

BURLESQUE

Hootchy Kootchy Girls Burlesque combines old Hollywood glamour with classy cabaret. Glamorous, fun, sexy but conservative burlesque classes: this style of burlesque is a homage to the 1940s and 1950s American style burlesque with roots in vaudeville, cabaret and showgirls. Classes are open to women over the age of 18 independent of their level of dance experience and are designed to help women find their sexiness and sensuality through a modest form of burlesque (not strip tease).

CEROC DANCE CONTINUING

This course caters for people who have completed TWO Ceroc Beginners courses. Ceroc is a modern partner dance done to Chart, Club and Swing music (and just about any other music you can think of!). This is a partner dance based on modern jive that you can dance at parties and clubs. If you are enrolling with a partner, you will both need to fill out an enrolment form. Please note: This is a social dance requiring the rotation of partners.

When: Stream 1; March 7th - April 4th, 2017 [5 sessions: Tuesdays 8:15 - 9:15pm]

This is a partner dance based on modern jive that you can dance at parties and clubs. It is preferable, but not essential, to enrol with a partner. CONTEMPORARY DANCE

This class is open to both experienced dancers and those wanting to just give it a go. Contemporary is a dance form that combines elements of Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, and Modern dance. It is usually danced barefoot to many different genres of music. A basic grasp of Modern or Ballet technique is useful for this course, however both beginning and experienced dancers are welcome . This course will emphasize the lyrical components of contemporary dance with a short dance being taught each week.

When: March 8th - April 5th, 2017 [5 sessions: Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00pm

HIP HOP DANCE FOR BEGINNERS

This course is suitable for absolute beginners who are interested in hip hop dancing. In this course you will learn a Hip-Hop dance routines as well as practice hip hop combinations and popular warm up movements.

HIP HOP INTERMEDIATE

If you have had extensive, previous hip-hop experience and are looking for a challenge or want to step up your hip hop dancing game then this course is for you!. In five weeks you will cover different hip hop styles learning several small hip hop dance routines.

JAZZ DANCE

This class aims to teach the basics of modern jazz for those with little or no dance experience in a fun environment while improving flexibility, co-ordination and confidence. A number of exercises and combinations will be taught, as well as a dance.

Bring: Comfortable clothing a water bottle and Jazz or ballet shoes (preferred but not compulsory, those who don’t have them can dance bare foot)

Ballet with a difference! These classes are made up of a combination of jazz and ballet. They include current music and are a great way to build flexibility, great posture, lean muscles and cardio fitness.

Bring: Comfortable clothing, soft ballet pumps (not compulsory as you can perform bare foot) and a drink bottle

MODERN BALLET INTERMEDIATE

Ballet with a difference! These classes are for those who have had some dance training in the past (2+ years dance experience, not necessarily ballet). Classes include recent music with an emphasis on Ballet, and Neo-Classical techniques and there is also a dance which is built on throughout the course. This is a great way to build flexibility, great posture, lean muscles and cardio fitness. While ballet experience is not necessary, a basic grasp of ballet principles and terminology is an advantage. No pointe work will be involved.

POLYNESIAN DANCE

Uncover you femininity and strength performing a variety of smooth movements with your arms while swinging your hips at the beat of the drums. Discover and appreciate the Rapa Nui culture through its dances and stories. The class will also cover some dances from Tahiti .

SALSA BEGINNERS

Learn to dance salsa and enjoy the salsa rhythm- Have fun, keep fit and meet new friends! It is a dance where you can go anywhere in the world and enjoy it with anyone, as salsa is first and foremost a social dance. This introductory course covers basic salsa footwork and movement! Partners not essential, but it is a fun, social dance to learn with friends. If you are enrolling with a partner, you will both need to fill out an enrolment form.

SWING FOR BEGINNERS

Want to learn to Swing dance? Need some new moves on the dance floor? Love jazz, blues and vintage music? This class is the perfect introduction to the super fun dance styles of the Swing era (1920s- 1940s) focusing mainly on Charleston and Lindy-hop. Suitable for absolute beginners, no partner is required – come along, get dancing, get fit and meet a bunch of choice people. Swing dance also has a great social scene in Dunedin – so you’ll have lots of chances to put your new dance moves to practice on the floor.
