BOXING FOR FITNESS

This is a fitness based boxing course. You will be doing a combination of cardio and strength training drills incorporating the use of gloves, focus mitts and skipping ropes. It isn’t for the soft hearted so please be prepared to sweat it out.

When: Stream 1 March 6th - May 15th, 2017 [10 sessions: Mondays 12:00 - 1:00pm]. No class April 17th.

Stream 2 March 10th - May 26th, 2017 10 sessions: Fridays 12:00 - 1:00pm]. No class April 14th or 21st.

EVENING YOGA

These very popular, mixed level classes offer hatha-yoga in the classical tradition of the internationally renowned Iyengar school. Open to all students, these yoga classes are suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate and more advanced participants. Yoga taught in these classes includes physical postures (asana), breathing exercises and relaxation which promotes vitality, stress relief, flexibility, increased strength and stamina, clarity and mental focus. The course tutor is trained in the Iyengar school of classical hatha-yoga and has a wealth of experience and knowledge about Yoga. Put heaps into these classes and you will get heaps out of them!

FENCING FOR BEGINNERS

This course is for beginners. This course provides an introduction to the ancient art of swordsmanship and modern Olympic sport of Fencing. It is suitable for all levels of fitness and will cover basic footwork and attack and defence with the foil. Enrol now and give fencing a go!

HERBAL MEDICINE MAKING

This course will give you a good grasp on the art of herbal medicine. You will make several products throughout the course including teas, vinegars, oils, scrubs and more.

JAPANESE SWORD

During this course you will be introduced to the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu style of Japanese Sword Fighting, a traditional style of Kenjutsu and Iaijutsu. The modern martial art of Kendo is based on this and similar traditional styles. Practice involves using wooden swords and, at an advanced level, live blades. JUJUTSU FOR BEGINNERS

The object of Seishinkan jujutsu is to preserve the mindset of the samurai while updating the techniques for contemporary society. Seishinkan jujutsu is originally based on Daito Ryu Jujutsu, and also has strong influences from Hapkido. This course will provide a brief introduction to the Seishinkan style of Jujutsu for self-defence.

MEDITATION

This course aims to introduce students to the practice of meditation. Meditation (dhyana, ch'an, zen) is a fundamental praxis common to all paths of Yoga and Buddhism. These classes cover techniques for sitting, breathing, centering, cultivating mental awareness and observing the mind in stillness.

When: April 27th - May 25th, 2017 [5 sessions: Thursdays 4:45 - 5:45pm].

PILATES

This course is essentially a beginners course with some intermediate exercises included to provide a gradual progression of difficulty. Sign up for the whole ten weeks, and progress throughout the semester. Pilates is an exercise programme based on the work of Joseph Pilates. During this course you will recreate your approach to exercise and re-teach your body correct form and movement. This course is brought to you in association with the qualified team at Back In Motion Physiotherapy and Pilates. As the first class is integral to the course, please be sure to attend it! SELF DEFENSE

This course is designed for beginners or those wanting a recap. The particular style of self defence taught will be that of Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a martial art and self-defence system developed for the military in Israel. It is known for its focus on real-world situations and extremely efficient and brutal counter-attacks. Krav Maga has a philosophy emphasizing threat neutralization, simultaneous defensive and offensive manoeuvres, and aggression. Krav Maga is used by Israeli Defence Forces, both regular and special forces, and several closely related variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement and intelligence organizations. SQUASH FOR ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS

Do you want to learn how to play squash? Then this course is perfect for you. This course will teach you the basic rules of the sport and how to hold and manipulate your racquet. You will also learn the fundamental shots of the game and have plenty of game time to put everything you’ve learnt into practice. In addition to the above you’ll also get free use of the casual squash court for the duration of the course. We also strongly encourage participants to also attend the Squash Club’s free club night on Friday evenings (your instructor will tell you more about this in class).

When: Stream 1 March 16th - April 6th, 2017 [4 sessions: Thursdays 5:30 - 6:30pm]

Bring: Exercise clothing, non marking sports shoes and a drink bottle. *This course is suitable for those who lack some hand-eye coordinator i.e. have not participated in racquet or ball sports prior. However if you have experience with racquet/ball sports our squash for beginners course will be suitable.

SQUASH FOR BEGINNERS (& ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS)

This course is suitable for those who have played squash before. This could be casually, socially or competitively in the lower grades (E to F grade). You will work to develop your technique, shots and strategies and as always have plenty of game play to put it all into action. In addition to the above you’ll also get free use of the casual squash court for the duration of the course. We also strongly encourage participants to also attend the Squash Club’s free club night on Friday evenings (your instructor will tell you more about this in class). Post course, should you wish to carry on socially or competitively the Squash Club have a range of memberships. The squash club is super friendly and inviting and best of all membership is very affordable.
