Learn to play traditional rhythms from Mali, Ghana, Guinea and Senegal on hand made djembe and dunun African drums. Who is the tutor? Robert Koffie Fugah is a professional African drumming and dance instructor (and performer). He grew up in a village called Abor from the Volta region of Ghana where traditional music and dance was apart of daily life. Robert has taught dance and drumming for about 15 years and has performed nationally and internationally. He is extremely passionate about what he does and loves teaching others.

ARABIC LANGUAGE FOR BEGINNERS
This course is designed for beginners. It will focus strongly on conversational Arabic language and touch briefly on cultural and geographic aspects also. It is ideal for those wanting to travel/work in Arabic speaking countries or those who just have a general interest. The course is taught by a native speaker giving the class absolute authenticity.

BOXING FOR FITNESS
This is a fitness based boxing course. You will be doing a combination of cardio and strength training drills incorporating the use of gloves, focus mitts and skipping ropes. It isn’t for the faint hearted so please be prepared to sweat it out. No pain, no gain…..

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR BEGINNERS
This is a practical course in digital photography tailored for people who have recently brought a digital camera, or have one that they are unsure of using and would like to improve their skills. This course will cover (but may not be limited to) basic camera operation, shutter, aperture and ISO, basic image composition, practical shooting, care of your camera, file and image types, fundamentals of light, accessories, basic software and editing, night and sunset photography and other topics suggested by the class.

FULL OR REFRESHER COMPREHENSIVE FIRST AID
This course is brought to you in conjunction with Workplace First Aid Training. Workplace First Aid is OUSA's preferred first aid provider. The full course is a “core programme” for your worksite or those requiring First Aid training for study or for future employment. It will give you skills, knowledge and confidence when providing First Aid. You will learn the same priorities and approach to patient care that the professionals use, and how to carry out that care until they arrive. These skills are learned and mastered while having fun along the way. The exact units standards offered in this course are 6400, 6401 and 6402.

INTRODUCTION TO ESPRESSO COFFEE MAKING
This course is offered in conjunction with the Common Ground Espresso. Introduction to Espresso is a productive and interesting course that offers hands on learning for all participants. We limit numbers to four students in order to maximise value for all involved. Over the three-hour session students will cover the Common Ground training goals. These goals are to understand Coffee Heritage, demonstrate Knowledge of Espresso Hardware, demonstrate Knowledge of Coffee Roasting Process and prepare and Present Espresso Coffee. These goals aim to combine knowledge of coffee heritage and espresso hardware with practical coffee training. Students will have the opportunity to observe a coffee bean roast and develop an overall understanding of espresso coffee from bean to cup.

These very popular, mixed level classes offer classical hatha-yoga in the tradition of the internationally renowned Iyengar school. These classes are suitable for everyone from absolute beginners to intermediate and the more advanced participants. Yoga taught in these classes includes physical postures (asana), breathing exercises and relaxation which promotes vitality, stress relief, flexibility, increased strength and stamina, mental clarity and focus. The course tutor is trained in the Iyengar school of classical hatha-yoga and has a wealth of experience and knowledge concerning yogic practice, anatomy, Sanskrit and beyond. This course is essentially a beginners course with some intermediate exercises included to provide a gradual progression of difficulty. Pilates is an exercise programme based on the work of Joseph Pilates. During this course you will revisit your approach to exercise and re-teach your body correct form and movement. Whether you want to sound better in your shower or be the next Robert Plant this course is a great place to start. You will learn basic singing principles such as breath support, vocal placement, and most importantly confidence as a vocalist and performer. You will work through vocal exercises to get your voice fit and ready for anything. UKULELE FOR BEGINNERS
Learn the basics of playing one of the most fun and simple stringed instruments, the Ukulele! This caters for absolute musical beginners as well as those with some musical experience.
When: January 18th - February 15th, 2018 [5 sessions: Thursdays 5:00 - 5:45pm].
Bring: Ukuleles are provided in the class, and are also available for practice on OUSA Clubs and Socs premises outside the class hours – ask at Reception if you need a ukulele and a space to practice. However, if you really want to make the most of this course by doing extra practice, then having your own ukulele (or access to one) is highly recommended. Advice on purchasing a ukulele is given in the first lesson.
